KL styled Loh Mee @ Lebuh Carnavon, Penang

Lor Mee ( 卤面 ) is a must try hawker food if you were to drop by Penang. However, my bestie brought me to try a special Lor Mee of Hwa Lam Coffee Shop at Lebuh Carnavon, which is at a turning opposite Pragin Mall.

I just got to know that the unique Lor Mee is known as KL Lor Mee after going through some blogs.
Well, the most distinguished flavour of KL Lor Mee is that the taste is rather sourish as the dark broth is cooked by adding black vinegar. Also, for Penang Lor Mee, the starchy broth is pre-cooked and it will be served together with the noodles.

On the other hand, for KL Lor Mee, the egg is cooked together with the other ingredients by stir frying the noodles in a wok together with the broth  (like the preparation of Char Hor Fun).

Also, you won't be seeing traces of minced garlic, slices of hard-boiled egg and bean sprouts in KL Lor Mee. Instead, meat, prawns and fish are added in this version of Lor Mee.

 KL Lor Mee @ RM4.00
A big serving of noodles with generous amount of fish, meat and prawns.

A closer zoom of the noodles.

Preserved lime drink @ RM 1.60
Its very good for sore throat. My grandma used to force me to drink this home-made remedy.

 Salted fish fried tofu (small)
(for Rm5.20 if not mistaken....)
Ordered this from a stall at the coffee shop. The tofu is hot and crispy.
It is best taken hot as the tofu is more fragrant with the aroma of salted fish.
Fried belacan chicken and herbal eggs are available too.
Too bad we are too full to taste more food.

Hwa Lam Coffee Shop is opened for supper from 5pm-12 mid-night.
They do serve duck rice too if you managed to frequent the coffee shop earlier for dinner.
They are closed on Tuesday though.

Food: 8/10 (the taste is unique...not a let down after all.)

Ambiance: 5/10 (just a normal coffee shop tucked in the heart of George Town)
