School Cafe @ Bukit Mertajam (Alma), Penang

Please take note that this cafe is no longer in business

I saw this cafe which is located along the same row of shop lots as Coffee Story when I went there with my buddies in February. The place looks interesting and we would like to check out the food. So, last Saturday, we went there for lunch before heading to the mall.

The menu of the cafe

The dining area near the entrance.
Love the ambiance.

Some of the school tables and chairs.
The chairs are pretty time and they are more suitable
for children. They are cute though.

They have a few sets of card in a bucket which is stored
in a cupboard divider near the entrance.

We finished the game within 15 minutes while
waiting for the food.

The dining area with different furniture and books
which perhaps you have read during your school days.

There is a selection of beverages known as '泰好喝', which shares that same sound as 'good to drink' in Mandarin. They are prepared by using imported coffee and tea leaves from Chiang Mai, Thailand. They have unique names and we would like to find out how they taste.

泰愛你 (TH3) @ RM 8.90
(a combination of Chiang Mai coffee and tea)

The tea has a strong flavour as compared to
the coffee's aroma in my opinion and
we didn't  even add the fresh milk given.
Perhaps those who fancy strong flavoured milk tea
will fancy this one.

泰想念 (TH2) @ RM 7.90

It tastes light and almost similar with our
local iced coffee 'kopi ais'. It has a sweet coffee
fragrance and it tastes good even without the
fresh milk.

Natural Soda Drink @ RM 8.90 per bottle
(Orange and Jasmine -left, Grapefruit Camomile-right)

I haven't tried this kinda soda before and the flavour
kinda gives me a surprise. The soda does not have an artificial
sweet taste and it has a light fruity flavour.

The orange and jasmine soda as a light sweet sourish taste and
there is a hint of sweet jasmine fragrant.
On the other hand, grapefruit and camomile has a slight
bitter taste due to the grapefruit.
I would love to try the other flavours soon.

Tempura Fish Fillet @ RM 9.90

The fish fillet is crispy and tastes good with lemon
juice, together with the mayonnaise coleslaw.
It is almost the same as fish and chips.

School Cafe Chicken Chop @ RM 9.90

The chicken is crispy on the outside and tender on
the inside. I kinda love the texture of the chicken.
It tastes good with the thick sauce which has a
sweet and slight sourish flavour.

French BBQ Chicken Whole Leg @ RM 12.90

The chicken is juicy and tender. The BBQ sauce tastes
amazing and the rich aromatic flavour goes well with
the chicken, as well as the chips. There are lots
of greens as sides too.

Porky Spaghetti @ RM 9.90

The spaghetti reminds me of a white radish and
it is adorable. It is served with slices of sausages and
minced meat. However, more tomato puree or marinara
sauce will add in more flavour.

They have 3 variety of set meals as well.
They come with either Coca-cola or 100 Plus

The decorations bring back nostalgic memories of school days and the food is great. The food is good and affordable. I believe that it would be a great place for friends to reminisce the good old days over lunch or coffee.

GST and service charge is not included in the bill.
